Malaysia's 60th Gold Medal Equals Success In Philippines

SINGAPORE, June 15 (Bernama) - Malaysia's 60th gold medal at the Singapore SEA Games equals the country's achievement in Manila, the Philippines ten years ago.

The Malaysian contingent won 61 gold medals, 49 silver medals and 65 bronze medals in 2005.

After day 11, Malaysia added one gold medal and two silver medals in petanque to remain in fourth place with 60 gold, 55 silver and 66 bronze medals.

Malaysia are assured of two gold medals tomorrow when Chong Wei Feng will play Mohamed Ariff Abdul Latif in the men's singles final while Vivian Ho-Woon Khe Wei will face Soong Fie Cho-Amelia Alicia Anscelly in the women's doubles.

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will face Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto of Indonesia in the mixed doubles final.

Meanwhile, Thailand retained the football gold medal after beating Myanmar 3-0 in the final at National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub, tonight. Vietnam won the bronze medal by sending Indonesia packing 5-0.

Thailand leads with 87 gold, 83 silver and 64 bronze medals followed by Singapore with 82 gold, 72 silver and 98 bronze.

Vietnam remained in third place with 73 gold, 51 silver and 56 bronze medals.
