MYA Hope To Send 16 Sailors To The Singapore Sea Games

JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) hope to send at least 16 sailors to represent the country in the Singapore SEA Games from June 5 to 16.

MYA President Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said sending 16 sailors would enable Malaysia to participate in all 16 categories contested in the Games.

He said the selection of sailors for the SEA Games was in the second phase.

"The Langkawi International Premier Regatta 2015 that begins in Langkawi on Wednesday will be one of the platforms to select sailors for the SEA Games," he told reporters after flagging off a Monsoon Cup convoy at the Persada International Convention Centre, here today.

Kamaruzzaman who is also the President and Chief Executive of Johor Corporation said the Langkawi International Premier Regatta would see 70 national sailors participating.

The Monsoon Cup will be held in Johor for the first time since its inception while Jeremy Koo of Koo Racing Team will represent Malaysia under the Sime Darby Foundation-1Malaysia Match Racing banner.

The Monsoon Cup to be held at the Danga Bay from Feb 10 to 14, will see 12 world class teams participating.
