Kim Swee To Use Rotation Strategy For Players To Stay Fit Throughout Sea Games Action

PETALING JAYA, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Harimau Muda A (national under 23) head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee will use the rotation strategy among his players to cope with the hectic schedule of the men's football competition in the Myanmar SEA Games which gets underway on Saturday.

He said this was important for his boys to remain fit throughout the competition whereby they were expected to play four preliminary matches within a week.

"At the moment, there are four or five players who can play in two positions (at one time) which is a good sign for me... I will try to utilise all of my players in the four matches," said Kim Swee.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the team manager's meeting for the friendly match against Japanese Division three club side, FC Ryukyu at the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) building, here, Tuesday.

The match will be held at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium tomorrow night and aimed at strengthening ties between the FAM and the club side which also has two Malaysian players - Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor and Nazirul Naim Che Hashim.

Kim Swee also voiced his concern about the security of his players, especially if they managed to beat Myanmar who have a huge number of football supporters.

"If you play against other teams like Brunei, Singapore or Laos, there is no pressure at all since they have less football fans but it would be a different case if we meet Myanmar.

"I will never know whether we are able to come out safely from the stadium if we managed to overcome them," he said.

Kim Swee said five players are set to miss the SEA Games' action due to injuries, namely Wan Zack Haikal, Gary Steven Robbat, Junior Eldstal, Nik Shahrul Azim Abdul Halim and Fandi Othman.

The list of 20 names for the SEA Games would be finalised after the friendly matches.

As the SEA Games defending champion Malaysia will kick-off their campaign against Brunei in Group A on Nov 10, Laos (Nov 13), Singapore (Nov 15) before wrapping up their preliminary matches against Vietnam, two days later.

All the matches would be held at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium in Naypyitaw.
