Three Gold Medals A Realistic Target - Birmingham

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The three-gold medals target for the national swimming squad at the 27th Myanmar SEA Games is a realistic one said coach Paul Birmingham.

He said he has placed high expectations on three experienced swimmers - Kevin Yeap, Daniel Bego and Khoo Cai Lin - to deliver the gold medals for Malaysia in the biennial games, which starts from Dec 11 to 22.

"To win the gold medal is difficult because many young talented swimmers from other countries have shown outstanding performances. But, I believe our swimmers can prove their best in the SEA Games.

"The target (three gold medals) is achievable and if everything goes perfectly, I think other swimmers can win one or two more gold medals.

"For young swimmers who compete for the first time in the games, they can gain valuable experience and improve their performance," he told reporters at National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil, here Tuesday.

Besides Kevin, Daniel and Cai Lin, the national swimmers for the Games are Yap See Tuan, Welson Sim, Vernon Lee, Wong Fu Kang, Lim Chin Hwang, Shawn Yap Kah, Tern Jian Han, Yap Siew Hiew, Christina Loh, Erika Chia Chia and Nadia Adriana Redza.

For record, the national swimming squad won five gold medals, 10 silvers and three bronze medals at the 2011 Indonesia SEA Games.
