JAKARTA, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The national rowing squad had to content with a bronze medal in the 26th SEA Games' campaign which ended Thursday.
The sole medal came from Muhammad Alif Abd Halid and Ahmad Huzaifah Ahmad Izuddin in men's M2 at the Cipule Lake when they clocked 7:18.640.
They were outclassed by Vietnam's Duong Thanh Binh and Nguyen Dinh Huy, who wrested the gold in 7:04.680 and Myanmar's Saw Wai Hlom and Myint San, who took the silver in 7:13.320.
National rowing manager Muhamad Hasnul Aizam Bakin said since rowing was introduced in 1997, this was the first time the national squad had won a medal.
"We are quite far behind our contenders as rowing is still new in Malaysia and it does not have a large following like in other countries," he added.
