SEA Games: Boxer Muhamad Farkhan Advances To Final

PALEMBANG, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- National boxer Muhamad Farkhan Haron qualified for the final in men's middle weight 75kg category after beating Thailand's Manus Boonjummon 10-9 in the semi-final at Lumban Tirta Hall here Thursday.

He will meet Indonesia's Alex Tatontos, who beat Cambodia's Chhuon Sok Leng, on Monday.

Muhamad Farkhan, who won the gold medal in the same category in the Laos SEA games two years ago became the sole national boxer who made it to the final.

"It was an arduous task this time around as I was almost denied a chance as the referee did not want to award me any points in the second round even though I had thrown many punches on my opponent.

"I do not understand why the referee did that but in the third round, my opponent resorted to embracing me many times, causing the referee to penalise him by deducting his points," he said.

Two other national boxers, Khir Akyazlan Azmi lost to the Philippines' Dennis Galvan in men's light welterweight 64kg while Mohd Fairuz Azman lost to Myanmar's Aung Ko Ko in men's semi-final light heavyweight 81kg.
