NAYPYITAW, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- M. Praveen Nair continued Malaysia's domination in the equestrian events at the Myanmar SEA Games when he collected the country's third gold medal in the dressage individual event at the Wunna Theikdi Equestrian Centre here Saturday.

The Nexus International School student in Putrajaya rode Sen Wil Mal to collect overall 67.405 points to edge two Indonesian challengers, Valentino Lumentah and Ferry Wahyu Hadiyanto to silver and bronze.

Valentino on 'Ngwe Lar May' scored 66.432 points while Ferry rode 'Perfecting Ruby' to collect 64.108 points.

Another Malaysian contestant, N. Shoorendran riding 'Tommy Gun' was placed fifth with 59.945 points.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin presented the medals to all winners in the event which was also witnessed by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar and National Sports Council (MSN) director-general, Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong.

Praveen, 16, when met by reporters afterwards, dedicated the victory to both his parents who gave him much moral support in the sport since he was 10-years-old.

He said he hoped the success today would redeem the disappointment of the squad in the dressage team event yesterday when they failed to collect any medals.

"I would like to thank my coach Chris Ladbrook of New Zealand who taught me the past six years," he said.

National equestrian squad manager Mohammad Din Mat who did not expect the squad to deliver three gold medals as they were not given any targets by OCM and MSN was elated at the turn of events.

"We have two more events, Show Jumping Individual and Team after this...we are not promising anything but we will try our best," said Mohammad Din.

The squad had earlier won two gold medals through Mohd Sulaiman Muda in the individual and team endurance events on Wednesday.
