Youngster Joshua Koh I Jie gets surprise gold in fencing competition

JAKARTA: Youngster Joshua Koh I Jie gave a polished show to deliver a surprise gold medal for Malaysia in the men's epee event in the SEA Games fencing competition at Depok on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Joshua defeated the more fancied Indonesian fencer Mohd Herullah 12-6 in the final to make up for his disappointment of coming empty handed in the Games at Korat in 2007.

Joshua could have earned more points but Herullah raised the white flag due to injury.

With the breakthrough performances, fencers have reached their one-gold medal target set for the SEA Games.
