SportCheck: Games galore ahead

AN unprecedented total of seven contingents will represent the country in multi-sports events throughout the year, culminating in the Sea Games in Laos on Dec 9-18.

Action begins tomorrow with the 5th Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, where Malaysia's contingent comprises 41 boys and 25 girls, supported by a cast of 31 officials led by Chef-de-Mission Jefri Ngadirin.

The inaugural Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok on April 25-May 3 offer the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) a different challenge in identifying a contingent to contest nine combat sports.

Islamic Solidarity Games 2009

The Asian Youth Games debut in Singapore on June 29-July 7, where Malaysia will be represented by athletes between 14 and 17-years-old.

The World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on July 16-26 are followed by the Islamic Solidarity Games in Teheran, Iran on Oct 15-20, while another contingent will head to Hanoi for the third edition of the Asian Indoor Games on Oct 30-Dec 8.

That will be the final test before the Sea Games, which along with the Asian Youth Games, is the event that much emphasis has been put on.
