Women's basketball team looks set for gold

SINGAPORE: The women’s basketball team are on course to win the gold medal.

The Malaysians defeated host Singapore 65-39 in their penultimate fixture – and are now just a match away from clinching their 13th SEA Games title.

Malaysia, who have beaten defending champions Thailand and Indonesia, will now play winless Vietnam on Monday.

After the Philippines were sensationally beaten by Indonesia on Friday, Malaysia needed a win against Singapore to put themselves in the driver’s seat in the round-robin competition.

They got down to business and led 17-9 in the first quarter before extending it to 32-17 by half time.

After the break, the team buckled down to coast to a 26-point win.

Forwards Yap Fook Yee and Eugene Ting led the team with 10 points each, with every member of the team contributing in offense as well.
