Malaysia beat Laos 3-1 in final Group B match

SINGAPORE: The national Under-23 team came alive in the second half to record a 3-1 win over Laos in their final SEA Games Group B match at the Bishan Stadium.

The team got off to a slow start, with Laos scoring the opener through Soukchinda Natphasouk’s header in the 21st minute.

Striker Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad got the equaliser in the 41st minute before goals from midfielder Saiful Ridzuan Selamat (70th) and striker Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim (80th) spared them the blushes.

The win put Malaysia in third place in the group, after collecting nine points from five matches. While Laos are fourth with six points.

Group champions Thailand and runners-up Vietnam secured their places in the semi-finals after collecting 15 points and 12 points respectively.

At the Jalan Besar Stadium, a 10-man Singapore were knocked out of the competition following their 1-0 defeat to Indonesia in their Group A match.

Evan Dimas struck the winner in the 41st minute for Indonesia to advance to the semis along with group champions Myanmar.

Hosts Singapore were reduced to 10 players after Ho Wai Loon was shown a straight red in the 65th minute.
