Bronze for Malaysia in team dressage

SINGAPORE: They may be a new team but it didn’t stop them from riding to a bronze medal in the team dressage event.

Without Praveen Nair, who won the individual dressage gold medal at the 2013 Myanmar Games, the team clearly lagged behind rivals Indonesia and Singapore in the SEA Games equestrian event.

Still, the trio of Natalya Aira Wah Idris, Mohd Izry Razali and Shaiful Mohd Din did well to earn a total of 170.737 points to pip Myanmar to the bronze at the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre on Saturday.

Indonesia, led by Asian Games individual bronze medallist Larasati Gading, took the gold with 206.579 points. Larasati scored 72.605 points to be the highest performer of the day.

Singapore settled for a silver with 201.711 points.

The Malaysian trio were pleased with the bronze medal.

“This is a new team and a first SEA Games for all of us. We weren’t expecting any medals,” said Natalya, who rode Tallong Coral and was Malaysia’s best performer with a 58.079 score.
