SEA GAMES: Ricky Chasing First SEA Games Gold

JAKARTA, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- National karate exponent Ricky Leong Tze Wai will be an extremely happy man if he can land his first SEA Games gold in the Kata event at the 26th edition of the SEA Games in Indonesia which kicks off Friday.

Although Ricky won the gold in the men's individual kata event at the Asian Games last year, he has yet to land the SEA Games gold in the event since making his debut in Southeast Asia's premier sports meet in Vientianne two years ago.

"The Asian Games gold gave me a tremendous boost. I want to follow up on that by winning the gold medal here as well," the 25-year-old Sabahan who hails from Kota Kinabalu told Bernama when met on arrival at the Soekarno Hatta International Airport here.

At the Vientienne Games in 2009, he and teammates Tan Chee Sheng and Kam Kah Sam won the silver medal in the men's kata team event.

Indonesia's Faisal Zainuddin had won the gold in the men's individual kata event in Laos.
