SEA GAMES: Adrian Ang Wins Bronze Medal In Individual Tenpin Bowling

JAKARTA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- National bowler Adrian Ang paid dearly for his inconsistent performance when he could only muster a bronze medal in the opening event in the bowling competition at 26th Sea Games in Indonesia.

Competing in the men's individual event at the Jaya Ancol bowling centre here, Adrian, 23, began his challenge with a moderate 187 pinfalls before recording 195, 267, 217, 238 and 255 to collect 1,359 pins, 27 pins short of gold medalist Frederick Ong from the Philippines in the final set of throws.

Another Filipino, Jeremy Posadas took the silver with 1,365 pinfalls.

"I am satisfied with the overall performance. My last set of throws had only one pin standing but that was enough for Jeremy to overtake me by six pins," he said when met at the end of the event.

However, two other national bowlers who led four of the six sets, veteran Alex Liew and Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan had to be contented with 5th and 8th positions with 1,339 and 1,316 pins respectively.

Also performing below par were Zulmazran Zulkifli, Aaron Kong and Muhd Nur Aiman Khairuddin who finished 10th, 12th and 15th out of 41 players.

Bowling continues with the women's individual late this afternoon while the men and women's pairs event will be held Wednesday.

The national bowling squad were the SEA Games champion in 2007 in Korat Thailand with four gold, three silver and six bronze.

However, the bowling event was not featured in last SEA Games in Laos in 2009.
