SEA GAMES: Adrian Ang Clinches Last Bowling Gold

JAKARTA, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- National bowler Adrian Ang closed the curtain on the 26th SEA Games tenpin bowling event by clinching the fifth gold for the bowling squad in the men's masters category at the Jaya Ancol Bowling Centre Sunday afternoon.

With his international experience, Adrian downed 431 pins compared to his challenger Frederick Ong of the Philippines with 390 pins in the final round of the men's stepladder.

Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan who was in the top three throughout the event won the bronze medal.

In the women's masters, national bowler Sharon Koh took the silver when she was beaten by Singapore's Cherie Tan in the final for the gold medal while another national bowler Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi took the bronze.

Meanwhile, national coach Holloway Cheah considered the fifth gold medal as a bonus as the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress had targeted only three gold medals.

The tenpin bowling event at the SEA Games in Indonesia saw Malaysia walking away with five gold, three silver and six bronze medals compared to the 2007 SEA Games in Korat Thailand's harvest of four gold, three silver and six bronze. The event was not offered for competition in the Laos SEA Games in 2009.
