Our girls fail to turn tables on Thai nemesis

THE Malaysian pair of Beh Shun Thing-Luk Teck Hua failed to reach the women’s beach volleyball final after losing 19-21, 14-21 to the Thailand’s Kamoltip Kulna-Yupa Phokong-ploy in the semi-finals yesterday.

Shun Thing-Teck Hua also lost to the top Thai pair at the same stage in the 2007 Korat Games.

Coach Lim Poh Hong said Shun Thing-Teck Hua were unable to capitalise on their counter-attack opportunities.

The defeat puts them in a bronze playoff today against Indonesians Efa and Yokbeth.

“They should not view the playoff match against the Indonesians as an easy one even though they won 2-0 in the pool stage,” said Poh Hong.

“The Indonesian pair are getting better each day. But I still believe that Shun Thing-Teck Hua will get the medal if they play to expectations.”
