Elaine Wants To Defend Gold In Vientiane

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Elaine Teo who returned with a gold medal from the Korat SEA Games in Thailand two years ago is confident of defending the title at the Vientiane SEA Games, Laos, this Dec.

"However, I expect stiff competition from the other taekwondo athletes. I am training hard under coach Dhanaraj and has to divide time for studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)," she told Bernama here today.

The 28 year-old said first stop would be the World University Games, Belgrade in July and then the World Taekwondo Championships, Copenhagen in Oct.

"My target for the World Championships is make the semi final. This is because I will be up against the world's best."

At the Beijing Olympics last year, Elaine lost to former European champion Azize Tanrikulu of Turkey in the qualifying round for the under 57 kg category.

She won a gold medal at the Asean University Games (AUG) here last month to help the Malaysian contingent to emerge overall champions.
