SINGAPORE: One second was all that separated national woman triathlete Irene Chong See Win from the SEA Games bronze medal.
Irene, from Seremban, clocked 2’22:09 while Thailand’s Arunsiri Sanruthai posted 2’22:08.
The Philippines enjoyed a 1-2 finish when Adorna Ma Claire took gold in 2:13.08 and Mangrobang Marion Kim the silver in 2:14:26.
But at least Irene can take consolation from the fact that the time she clocked at the East Coast Park on Saturday is her personal best.
“I was third in cycling and ahead of Mangrobang ... but a leg injury slowed me down in the run section,” said the 26-year-old Irene, who admitted that she needed more international exposure to improve.
She will leave for Taiwan next week to compete in the Taiwan Triathlon Asian Championships from June 11-14.
“That will be the first Asian-standard event I’ll be competing in,” she said. — BernamaThe Star Online
