SINGAPORE: The SEA Games gold medal has continued to elude the Malaysian shooters on the third day of competition.
The trio of Siti Zawiah Mohamed, Norhidayah Mohd Fuad and Khoo Nee Hoe could only shoot down a bronze in the women’s precision pistol team event with a combined score of 1,602 points at the National Shooting Centre in Choa Chu Kang on Monday.
Thailand took gold with 1,723 points and the Philippines the silver with 1,700 points.
Siti Zawiah’s score of 1,420 points in the qualifying round saw her make the semi-finals of the individual event, where she finished sixth after shooting 223.
Only the top four advanced into the medal rounds. Filipino Elvie Baldivino outgunned Singapore’s Norizan Mustafa 230-282 to win gold while Pattarasuda Sowsanga of Thailand clinched bronze after beating Singapore’s Cynthia Lee 230-219 in the playoff.
In the men’s skeet team event, Malaysia’s Ricky Teh, Gan Kong Leong and Amran Risman are in third spot with 188 points – just 10 ahead of fourth-placed Philippines.
Singapore lead with 208 points, followed closely by Thailand – just a point behind – with the competition resuming on Tuesday.
