KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Cycling Association (ACA) Congress held in Singapore last week wants Malaysia who host the 2017 SEA Games, to include road race, track, BMX and Mountain Bike (MTB) races.
ACA President Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab a resolution put forward by a number of countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam was unanimously accepted.
"Thailand had requested Malaysia to include track cycling, road race, BMX and MTB in the 2017 SEA Games hosted by Malaysia. Myanmar, the 2013 SEA Games host said they had included road race, BMX and MTB in their programme," he said in a statement here today.
Abu Samah said ACA would write to the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) to inform the Ministry of Youth and Sports about the request.
He said if accepted, the 2017 SEA Games cycling events would offer 18 gold medals and Malaysia would have an opportunity to win at least seven.
Meanwhile, Abu Samah who is also the MNCF President was happy with the achievement of National cyclists who won two gold medals, especially the men's Mass start road race gold.
