Ballard to set target for Athletics squad at Singapore SEA Games - Karim

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- The athletics squad's goals at the SEA Games in Singapore will be set and announced by the Malaysian Athletic Federation's (MAF) technical director Robert J Ballard in the near future.

MAF president Datuk Karim Ibrahim said he would not interfere in setting of target for the SEA Games and that it will be determined by Ballard.

"Ballard will announce our gold medal target later. He is the right person to handle this. With his presence, we should perform be better than the four gold medals won in Myanmar," he told reporters after the pre-launch of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon today.

The KL Marathon, which is expected to attract 35,000 runners from all over the world, is scheduled to take place on Oct 4 at Dataran Merdeka.

When asked about the total number of athletes who will be in the athletics squad to Singapore in June, Karim said to date, MAF had selected 35 athletes to represent Malaysia at the biennial event.

However, the full squad will be finalised after the Perak Open Athletics Championship on May 23-24.
