Archers fail to find target in Bali

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s campaign in the individual competition of the Asian archery championships ended when none of the SEA Games-bound representatives made it to the semi-finals in Bali yesterday.

Cheng Chu Sian was Malaysia’s top performer, bowing out in the quarter-finals with a 107-109 defeat by to Kuo Cheng-wei of Taiwan.

And Mohd Zulkifli Tahlil and Ariff Farhan Ibrahim did not even make the top eight.

Zulkifli lost 104-109 to Japanese Kikuchi while Ariff went down 108-111 against Kim Sung-hoon of South Korea in second-round matches.

Malaysia’s three women’s representatives — S. Anbarasi, Noor Aziera Taip and Nur Amirah Mohd — also did not survive the early rounds.

National coach Lee Hae-jyung said that he hoped the Malaysians would bounce back with better performances in the men’s and women’s team competitions in the elimination rounds beginning today. STAR
