SINGAPORE, June 3 (Bernama) -- Timor Leste football squad tasted their first victory at 2015 SEA Games after defeating whipping boys, Brunei 2-1 in the third group B encounter at Bishan Stadium, here, Wednesday night.
The win saw Timor Leste moved up one spot to pip Malaysia in the group B standing with a better goal difference, despite both teams securing three points, as Datuk Ong Kim Swee's boys will face a do-or-die mission against defending champion, Thailand at the same venue, tomorrow evening.
In tonight's match, Brazilian naturalised player, Jairo Neto put Timor Leste in front in the 24th minute before Faiq Jefri Bolkiah levelled the tie for Brunei in the 68th minute.
Another Brazilian naturalised player, Paulo Ribiero turned to be a saviour for Timor Leste as he struck the winning goal, seven minutes later.
In group A match held at Jalan Besar Stadium, minnow Cambodia put up a splendid performance after pulling off a sensational 3-1 win against the Philippines.
The three goals by Cambodia were scored by Prak Mony Udom in the 30th minute, Keo Sokpheng (41st minute) and Chan Vathanaka in the 80th minute while Philippines's solitary goal was netted by Paolo Salenga in the 53rd minute.
Vietnam who mauled Malaysia 5-1 in their second Group B fixture, last night, will take on Laos at Bishan Stadium, while hosts Singapore who are gunning for their first gold medal in the biennial games, will play against Myanmar at the Jalan Besar Stadium and both matches would be held tomorrow.
