SINGAPORE, June 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysian's blend of young and elite Synchronized Swimming team had to be contended with the silver medal as they were no match to the experienced Singapore team's energetic performance at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, here Wednesday night.
The silver medal was the first for Malaysia in the 28th SEA Games after a bronze medal win from table tennis yesterday.
Malaysia's performance which was equally exciting saw the judges award 146.5204 points while Singapore took the gold with 150.8445 points while Indonesia were third on 138.1796 points.
Malaysia were headed by Katrina Ann Abdul Hadi, Foong Yan Nie, Gan Hua Wei, Gan Zhen Yu, Kwong Zhi Kei, Lee Yhing Huey, Lee Yiat Lum and Tasha Jane Taher Ali.
In 2011, Malaysia had won the gold in Palembang when Indonesia hosted the SEA Games but in 2013, Myanmar did not include the event.
"Based on the number of competitions we had participated, the result was expected. Syabas to Singapore," said Katrina Ann.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Png Hui Chuen said the result was expected since the host Nation had put up a sizzling performance through its experienced team members.
"This team was formed only last year and we need to work on certain areas to improve. Our main target is the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
