Malaysian Gymnastics Federation to send elites and juniors

PETALING JAYA , May 18 — The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) will send its combination of elite and juniors for the Singapore SEA Games.
President A. Razak Mat Amin said MGF is targeting two golds.

“We just finalised the full squad in the board meeting,” he said right after the meeting in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
“This year, we are going to send our ‘old’ and ‘new’ gymnasts.

“MGF is confident with the rhythimic and women’s artistic team and we targeting gold from them.”
However, Razak said he is also confident with the men’s artistic team.
“We also putting hopes in our men’s team. MGF is optimistic the boys can produce medals, irregardless of the colour.”

At the Games, two disciplines of gymnastics shall be contested — artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.
Men’s artistic consists six apparatuses which are floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.

Women’s artistic has four apparatuses — vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
As for injuries in the squad, Razak said there was nothing to be worried about.
“Injury and gymnastics are related. As long as you are mentally and physically ready, it’s enough to display a good performance.”

Artistic gymnast, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, said the team is at its peak.
“We will try our best to strive for gold,” she said. “Vietnam and Thailand are our contenders and they are getting better.

“The team is determined for success and I believe we can do it,” she said
Tracie Ang will also make her way to her fourth appearance despite being asked to rest following a hip surgery on Oct 21 last year.
