PETALING JAYA, May 7 (Bernama) -- National Under-23 head coach Datuk
Ong Kim Swee has identified three candidates to wear the armband and
lead the Malaysian team at the SEA Games 2015 in Singapore next month.
All three are incidentally from Johor, namely two from Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) - Mohamad Amer Saidin and Gary Steven Robbat - plus Mohd Fandi Othman from JDT II.
"I am not sure who will be chosen as the captain because I will have to discuss with team Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah before making a decision n the captain and his assistant," Kim Swee told reporters after a training session at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, here today.
In the SEA Games, Malaysia who are drawn in Group B with defending champion Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei and Timor Leste are expected to have a difficult passage to win the gold medal.
Malaysia face Timor Leste in their opening match on May 30, Vietnam (June 2); Thailand (June 4); Brunei (June 8) and complete their fixtures against Laos on June 11.
All Group B matches will be played at the Bishan Stadium while Group A matches involving Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Cambodia will be played at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
