PTAM To Send Nine-Member Boxing Squad To Singapore SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Amateur Boxing Association (PTAM) hope to send a nine-member boxing squad, including three women, to the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

PTAM honorary secretary Mohamed Jani Ismail said the final list would be finalised after a meeting with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) on Feb 4.

"We will have a management committee meeting with t6he National Sports Council (NSC) on Jan 20, to discuss preparations for the SEA Games and a number of other competitions," he told Bernama when contacted today.

The six men in the current list are Mohd Fuad Mohd Reduan (49kg), Mohd Azwan Mohd Nor (52kg), Arfiqanie Ahmad Anshori (56kg), Muhamad Al-Nazirul Osman (60kg), Khir Akyazlan Azmi (64kg), Rudy Petrus (75kg) while Lee Ai Jim (48kg), Nor Azirina Lim (51kg) and Ainul Mardiyatul Hazizah Habibi (57kg) make up the women's list.

Mohamed Jani said the PTAM has set a two-gold target for the SEA Games in Singapore through Mohd Fuad, Arfiqanie or Khir Akzylan and another medal of any colour from the women.

"We are not setting any lofty target for the women since the three women in the squad are being prepared for the 2017 SEA Games to be hosted by Malaysia," he said adding that the members of the boxing squad have already started their training at the Felda Boxing Training Centre in Jempol (Negeri Sembilan) and NSC Sports Complex in Keramat, here.

For the record, Malaysia's best achievement in the SEA Games was a two-gold feat at the 2009 Laos SEA Games through Muhamad Farkhan Haron (men's 75kg) and Muhd Fairus Azwan Abdullah (men's 81kg).
