Nine more gold medals for Malaysia

JAKARTA: Malaysia won nine gold medals in the Indonesia Sea Games today with the Yoong family providing two gold and one silver in water skiing.

Former Formula One racer Alex Yoong won a silver in the  men’s slalom but it was his eight-year-old half sister Aaliyah  who stole the show as the youngest ever gold medallist in the  Sea Games when she triumphed in the women’s tricks.

The Yoong show continued with Phillipa, the sister of Alex,  striking gold in the women’s slalom.

Malaysia underlined their position as the kings of the Sea  Games in men’s bowling by scooping both the gold and silver  in the men’s trios.

Malaysia are also proving to be a force in the water with  their swimmers splashing to two gold medals today. Christina  Loh won gold in the women’s 50m breaststroke while Heidi  Gan was unbeatable in the women’s 5km.

In silat, an arena where Indonesia is said to have a big edge,  the Malaysians held their ground by winning three gold  medals with Ahmad Shahril  Zailudin leading the way.
