Tun Hanif Trophy Shooting Competition - Final Platform For SEA Games Hopefuls

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The Tun Hanif Trophy shooting competition in October is expected to be the last platform for shooters to earn a ticket to the Laos SEA Games from Dec 9-18.

The National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) secretary Major (Rtd) Jasni Shaari said compared with last year, more back up squad shooters had surpassed the qualifying mark in all categories.

"However, NSAM will only select shooters for the Games based on merit and consistency and back up shooters must be aware of the process," he told Bernama here on Friday.

Jasni added that a number of tournaments can be used by shooters to earn their place, especially the Tan Sri SM Yong Trophy next month, Tun Tan Siew Sin Trophy in (July) and President's Cup in August.

He added that back up shooters must compete against senior shooters to earn their places as only three shooters from each category can represent the country in the SEA Games.

"Though NSAM will give priority to shooters with experience since competition at the Games will be a different ball game compared with local tournaments, the door will remain open for back up shooters to prove their worth and gain a place. May be we will team them up with senior shooters," said Jasni.
