SINGAPORE, June 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian divers lived up to expectations and top billing in the 28th Singapore SEA Games by sweeping the two gold medal at stakes Saturday.
They clinched the gold medal in the women's 3m springboard through Cheong Jun Hoong and in the Men's 10m sycronised platform through Ooi Tze Liang and Chew Yiwei.
The diving squad also claimed a silver medal in the women's 3m Springboard through Ng Yan Yee at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.
Jun Hoong, retained the gold medal that she had won at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar with 349.65 points while Yan Yee took the silver with 309.20 points and Singapore's Fong Kay Yian picked up the bronze with 258.90 points.
Fresh from competing at the FINA World Series, Jun Hoong admitted that the competition was tough and felt a bit pressured.
"I feel pressured a little bit...my concentration was more on my dive. Although Yan Yee was my strongest competitor but I never look up to her scores. I just focused on my dive and delivered the execution well," said the 25-year-old, who is making her sixth appearance in the Games since the 2003 edition in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Yiwei, who is making his second appearance at the Games, was happy to win his first gold medal after he won the bronze medal in the men's 3m springboard in Myanmar SEA Games.
"It is good to retain the gold medal, compared to our stint in the Asian Games, we were not consistent. After a month of training in China, we could still provide some quality dives and have improved," said the 20-year-old.
The Malaysian duo topped the scoreboard with 404.37 points, while Indonesia's Andriyan/Putra Adityo Restu and Thailand's Siribon Theerapat / Juntaphadawon Yotsawat accumulated 355.11 and 316.77 points for the silver and bronze medal, respectively.
Yiwei will be competing in the men's 10m platform on Monday.
