PETALING JAYA, May 21 (Bernama) -- National rugby coach (men's 7s) Nik Safuan Ismadi Nik Man has challenged his boys to win a medal at the SEA Games in Singapore next month.
Nik Safuan said though Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) President Datuk Wira Amiruddin Embi only wants the team to do their best, he has confidence in the team which is a combination of new and seasoned players.
"I am confident that the exposure in Melbourne last month will come in handy although Thailand and the Philippines will be strong contenders. The players have pledged to give their commitment.
"What the team needs now is cohesion and team work because in rugby mental strength and speed are very important," he told reporters handing sports apparel to Cobra Rugby Club's men's and women's teams, here today.
Malaysia's previous best medal haul was a silver in the 1995 SEA Games in Chiangmai, Thailand.
Nik Safuan said the team would not check into the centralised training camp at the IOI Palm Resort Hotel in Putrajaya tomorrow because the team would be in Taman Negara, Pahang for a team building programme on Saturday.
