Myanmar SEA Games gold medal winner Praveen's SEA Games hopes dashed by injury to horse

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- Six horses used by the Malaysian equestrian team will endure a tiring seven-hour ride from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore to compete in the SEA Games next month.

National equestrian coach Syed Omar Syed Abu Bakar Al Mohdzar said seven riders will compete in Show Jumping and Dressage events during the Games.

Syed Omar said floats would be used to transport the six horses - Tallong Coral, Urgola, Wachinta, PRTC Gin Fizz Van De Gasthoeve, Thor De Martinpre and Cookie N Cream.

The seventh horse - Arcado - would be flown into Singapore from Germany.

"The journey may take between six to seven hours and that will be a tiring ride for the horses because the horses have never been transported that far in the past since the furthest we have taken them is from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh.

"If escorted by police, the journey will be smooth and faster," he told Bernama at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club, here Sunday.

The seven riders identified for SEA Games are Mohd Nabil Fikri Ismail (Urgola), Natasha Ines Wah Idris (Wachinta), Ahmad Imtaz Amir Hamzah (PRTC Gin Fizz Van De Gathoeve), Sharmini Christina Ratnasingham (Arcado L), Muhammad Shaiful Azwan Mohamad Din (Thor De Martinpre), Natalya Aira Wah Idris (Tallong Coral) and Mohd Izry Razali (Cookie N Cream).

The equestrian team that compete in the Myanmar SEA Games two years ago won three gold medals through individual Endurance and team Dressage.

However, the endurance event will not be held in Singapore while Dressage gold medallist in Myanmar, M. Praveen Nair, will miss the SEA Games because his horse is injured.
