PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will compete in men’s waterpolo in the Laos SEA Games after all.
The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (Asum) had earlier this year decided against funding a team to compete in Vientiane after the disappointing outing in the previous Games in Korat.
However, the Asum secretary, Edwin Chong, said that they have reversed the decision after the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, promised to secure a sponsor.
“The commitment was made recently and if everything goes well we will have a team in Laos,” he said.
Edwin added that they had identified 16 players and would look at their fitness level during the Malaysian Open in Penang later this month before naming a final squad of 13.
