Wushu Set Modest Two-gold Target For 2011 Sea Games In Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) has set a modest two-gold medal target for the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia from Nov 11-25, despite featuring a young and inexperienced squad.

WFM executive secretary Winnie Chin said the target was one less from the three gold medals won at 2009 Laos SEA Games.

"The WFM does not want to set a lofty target but would rather base the target on the potential of the exponents and team," said Chin when contacted by Bernama here Tuesday.

In Laos, wushu contributed three gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Chin said as preparations for the SEA Games, WFM had sent the exponents in the team to Fuzhou, China for a 45-day training stint.

"They left to China yesterday because the training in Fuzhou is very important to improve their ability while the exposure will do a world of good for the young exponents," said Chin adding that the training was also to prepare the team for the World Wushu Championships in Izmir, Turkey, next month.

In Indonesia, the 15 wushu exponents would compete in the Taolo and Shen Quan events, said Chin.
