SEA Games Maiden Climbing Event May See 20 Malaysians In Action

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The Mountaineering Federation of Malaysia (PMM) plans to send 20 athletes to represent Malaysia at the newly included sport climbing event at the SEA Games in Indonesia in November.

PMM secretary-general Mohd Zaidi Kamaruddin told Bernama the plan was to enter the 10 men and 10 women athletes in all categories of the event, dependent upon the financial allocation from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The categories for the event include speed climbing, lead climbing and bouldering.

Zaidi said the athletes were selected based on their performance in a series of national championships over the past year.

He said the federation, despite being optimistic about the chances of the athletes at the games, did not want to set too high a target.

"We are looking at a medal in the men's bouldering category through the experienced Hafzanizam Bokhari," he said.
