PADDLER Ng Sock Khim, who delivered a surprise silver medal in the 2007 Korat Sea Games, will not make the trip to Laos after injuring her right knee last month.
She underwent knee reconstruction surgery on Oct 17 and will need about three months to recover before she can start light training again.
Her absence is a big blow to the Sea Games-bound table tennis team, who were looking to improve their medal count in Laos.
Sock Khim, who injured her knee in training, contributed one silver in the singles and two bronze in the women's doubles and team event in Korat.
Table Tennis Association of Malaysia honorary secretary Chan Foon Keong said the medal target would now be revised.
"Sock Khim's absence has weakened the women's squad. It is just bad luck that she had to get injured now. Our medal target has been reduced from four medals to just two bronze," said Foon Keong yesterday.
The national team will leave for Lucknow, India, today for the Asian Championships, starting on Monday. NST
